There are no rules for who can and cannot attend a Frightened Rabbit show and when you’re there we all feel strongly that you should at the very least be able to use whatever bathroom you feel most comfortable using. For that reason at our recent North Carolina show in Saxapahaw we thought it important to make a stand against the proposed HB 2 law discriminating against transgender people and their human rights.
Instead of cancelling our show we held an auction for a signed drumhead and promised to match the winning bid with all profit going to Equality NC. The response was overwhelming and in the end we auctioned off 3 items. The drumhead raised $1500, a signed poster went for $1000 and a set list made $500 totalling an incredible $3000! With our donation this makes $6000. Special mention goes to our merch seller Dylan who made this happen and donated his tips from the night too.
Aside from the actual money raised we stand alongside everyone in North Carolina and around the world who find this proposal to be unlawful and a violation of human rights. The response in Saxapahaw made me proud to be in this band and proud of everyone who was there that night in standing up and saying simply “This is not ok”.
Grant & all of Frightened Rabbit.
